Underride Accidents In Texas
An attorney you can trust to fight for justice
Of all the truck accidents we’ve seen, few are as devastating as those involving underride accidents. When a smaller vehicle becomes stuck under a tractor-trailer, people sustain catastrophic and even fatal injuries. If you or a loved one was involved in an underride accident in Texas, you need a skilled truck accident lawyer to demand justice.
Coby L. Wooten, Attorney At Law, P.C. of Fort Worth has the experience and resources you need to take on the trucking companies and truck manufacturers in these complex, high-stakes cases. Trust Coby and his team to help you pursue the compensation you need and deserve.
Understanding underride wrecks in Texas
An underride accident happens when a smaller vehicle – a passenger car, pickup truck, van or motorcycle, for example – hits the rear or side of a tractor-trailer and slides underneath the trailer itself. These accidents can cause devastating injuries when part of the trailer enters the cab of the smaller vehicle. Underride accidents are often fatal, and those who survive may sustain life-altering injuries, such as lost limbs, brain injuries and spinal cord injuries.
You’ve probably seen the underride guards on the rear or, less frequently, side of tractor-trailers on the highways in and around Fort Worth. When they function properly, these guards are supposed to prevent underride accidents. But too often, those guards fail, due to manufacturing defects or poor maintenance. In those cases, you may have a claim against the trucking company or the manufacturer of the trailer.
Underride accidents can also be the result of negligence on the part of the truck driver. In a rear-end collision, the trucker may have been following another vehicle too closely and had to stop short, causing your vehicle to hit the truck from behind. Or the truck may have been illegally parked, or driving too slowly because of engine trouble.
An underride accident can also happen in a side impact collision when a truck merges into the path of an oncoming car. Offset collisions are also dangerous. This is when a car strikes the trailer from behind on one of its corners.
The negligence of a trucker may have led to an underride crash – for example, if the trucker was operating negligently or was too fatigued to be behind the wheel. Perhaps the trucking company failed to equip the truck with required underride guards or did not properly maintain the truck. Or a manufacturer’s defect led to the crash.

Coby L. Wooten can help you pursue compensation
Underride accidents can give rise to very complex, high-stakes legal cases, and you need an experienced lawyer like Coby Wooten on your side. Attorney Wooten and his team will investigate your accident to get to the bottom of what happened. We’ll fight to preserve evidence you need to build your case, and whether we have to negotiate with the trucking company or manufacturer or even take them to court, we’ll work hard to get you the justice and just compensation you deserve.
Our legal team investigates to gather evidence. This includes evidence owned by the trucking company, such as hours of service logs, employee and maintenance records, and data from the truck’s event data recorder (the truck’s “black box.”) We carefully review accident reports and medical records. If needed, we consult accident reconstruction experts.
Trucking companies and their insurance carriers will fight hard against your claim because they know there’s a lot of money at stake. They may make a lowball settlement offer, hoping you’ll just take it and go away. We think you deserve better.
Our lawyers determine the total damages you have suffered. This includes current and future medical expenses related to your truck accident injury, lost wages if you couldn’t work because of the injury and other damages such as pain and suffering and loss of enjoyment of life.
If the insurance company won’t agree to a settlement that meets your needs, we’ll be ready to fight for you in court.
How much will all of this cost you? Nothing out of pocket – you don’t owe us anything unless we recover compensation for you. Our firm works on a contingency fee basis. We pay all the costs to move your case forward. If we don’t win, we don’t get paid. It’s as simple as that.
You can expect exceptional service from a lawyer who will personally handle your case. There are no case managers here.
